In a groundbreaking development, New Space India Limited (NSIL) is set to launch the GSAT-20 satellite in the second quarter of 2024, marking a historic mission with the Falcon 9 heavy lift launcher for NSIL/ISRO. The mission, now named GSAT-N2, aims to provide cost-effective High Throughput Satellite (HTS) capacity to meet the broadband and cellular backhaul service needs of the country.
This mission will cover the entire nation, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep, addressing connectivity requirements in these remote regions. GSAT-N2 is NSIL's second such mission, following the successful launch of GSAT-24 in June 2022.

SpaceX, the US-based satellite communications company owned by Elon Musk, the world's richest person, will facilitate the launch. SpaceX boasts an impressive track record, with 285 launches, 243 landings, and 217 re-flights under its belt.
The launch service contract between NSIL and SpaceX, USA, is set to be signed, ushering in a new era of collaboration and technological advancement. This mission signifies a significant step forward in India's space capabilities, ensuring enhanced satellite communication services for the entire nation, even in remote areas.
