Melbourne: Indian-origin cricketer Nikhil Choudhary is making waves in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia, whether it's with his powerful batting or celebrating in a desi style. Fans are loving it. In tournaments like the BBL, perhaps it's the first time that so much discussion is happening about an Indian-origin player. And why not? Nikhil had to overcome significant struggles to reach where he is today.
Having played under-19 cricket for Punjab in India, when Nikhil felt that he wouldn't get an opportunity there, he decided to try his luck in Australia. For someone whose dream was to become a cricketer, he has consistently worked hard to fulfill it. Getting a chance in a foreign country was also challenging, but Nikhil didn't give up.
Nikhil Choudhary secured a contract with the Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL for the first time. Before this, he used to play cricket for some club in Australia. In a video interview with the Hobart Hurricanes, Nikhil Choudhary shared how he made it to the BBL.
He mentioned that when he came from India to Australia and had no job, he started working at a Mexican restaurant. However, he had to quit this job quickly because he wasn't good at cutting vegetables with a knife. His fingers were cut multiple times.
In this situation, he shared this with his mother, and following her advice, Nikhil left his job at the restaurant and became a courier boy, delivering goods to households. He did this for two years. During this time, he also continued playing cricket. Nikhil revealed that just three months ago, he got the contract for the BBL, and now he is playing for the Hobart Hurricanes.
Apart from this, he also spoke openly about his celebration style in desi fashion. Nikhil mentioned that he raises his hand and claps, a move inspired by the sport of kabaddi. In fact, he used to enjoy playing kabaddi alongside cricket during his childhood. Some Indian cricketers, like Shikhar Dhawan, also celebrate on the cricket field in a similar style.
